Reading Tarot Cards
Reading and interpreting tarot cards is based on our belief system. Once we place our belief in them they become a powerful tool for exploring the inner working of our lives, and indeed, our destiny. Although there are no hard and fast rules for reading the tarot cards, still there are some general instructions that have evolved over centuries of reading the tarot. They are more useful for the beginners.
Choosing the deck of tarot cards
The best tarot deck for the beginner is the Rider-Waite tarot deck. It is by far the most popular deck. Visit your local bookstores and you are most likely to find one. If not, you may shop online.
- Concentrate on the question you wish to ask and shuffle the cards. You can mix the cards into a pile using both your hands and then collect them neatly and start with a regular card shuffle.
- Cut the deck. If you are reading for someone else, ask him/her to speak out the question loudly and also cut the deck. If you are reading for yourself, you may do so yourself.
- Deal the cards using the tarot spread of your choice. A popular and simple card spread consists of four cards in a diamond shape.
Now look at the design of the cards. If the cards look right side up for the reader, they are in a positive position. Reverse their position if they look upside down for the reader.
Taking care of your tarot cards
- Take a scarf or a piece of cloth and wrap the deck into it to keep it safe and clean. It would still be better if you buy a special box wherein the deck will stay much safer and in clean environment.
- Season your deck. Keep it next to your heart when you sleep at night. Do it for a week. You may also keep it under your pillow.
